The LSI Scholarship & Awards Program
The Lifting Stripes Initiative (LSI) is a Canadian non-profit that empowers youth, particularly those of African descent, through education, empowerment and mentorship.
LSI helps youth overcome integration challenges in Canadian society by providing essential resources and promoting community engagement. Our goal is to recognize and support exceptional young individuals who demonstrate leadership, academic excellence, and community service. The LSI Scholarship & Awards Program aims to help these individuals achieve their academic and career goals while contributing to their communities.
This year, LSI will be awarding four $1000 scholarships to qualifying students pursuing education at an accredited Canadian University or College in September 2025. Three $500 awards will be awarded to qualifying youths pursuing excellence while giving back to the community.

The Law & Social Justice Scholarship by Ehinlaiye Law Professional Corporation
The LSI Future Leaders Scholarship & Awards Program is proud to support Black students with a passion for Law and Social Justice. This scholarship is designed for students who plan to pursue a career in law, with a particular focus on advocating for justice, equality, and human rights. Through this scholarship, we aim to help you overcome financial barriers while providing mentorship and support on your journey to becoming a leader in the legal field.
We recognize the critical role that Black voices play in the fight for justice and equality, and we are committed to empowering the next generation of Black lawyers and social justice advocates. The LSI Law & Social Justice Scholarship is for students who are driven by a deep interest in social justice and are committed to making a tangible difference in their communities and the broader society.
International Student Scholarship by Mo's Law Office (Nigerian Students Only)
The LSI Future Leaders Scholarship & Awards Program is dedicated to supporting exceptional students who face unique challenges in pursuing higher education. The International Student Scholarship is designed specifically for Nigerian international students who are also single mothers. This scholarship is aimed at providing financial assistance and mentorship to empower you to overcome barriers and achieve your academic and career goals.
We recognize the strength and determination required to balance motherhood with academic commitments, especially as an international student far from home. This scholarship is here to support you as you work towards creating a better future for yourself and your family while contributing positively to your community and society.
Business & Entrepreneur Scholarship by Grey Matlock Bakery (Nigerian Students Only)
The LSI Future Leaders Scholarship Awards Program is committed to supporting the next generation of business leaders and entrepreneurs. The Business & Entrepreneur Scholarship is designed for Nigerian students who are planning to pursue a business or entrepreneurial-related program at a college or university, or equivalent institution in Canada.
We recognize the tremendous potential within the Nigerian youth community, and this scholarship aims to foster the growth of innovative leaders who will drive economic change and social impact. By receiving this scholarship, you will be one step closer to achieving your dreams of becoming a successful entrepreneur or business professional, while also contributing positively to your community and the global economy.

Mental Health Advocacy Award by Taiwo Ayinde
The Mental Health Advocacy Award is for students who are actively working to make a difference in the field of mental health, whether through activism, research, or direct support to individuals or communities. This award recognizes those who are using their platform, education, and passion to improve mental health access and awareness. By receiving this award, you will be empowered to continue your advocacy efforts and contribute to breaking down the barriers surrounding mental health issues in society.
The NCAH Youth Volunteer Award by NCAH (Nigerian Students Only)
The NCAH Youth Volunteer Award celebrates youth aged 15 to 30 who demonstrate exceptional volunteerism, leadership, and a commitment to making a positive difference in their communities. Recipients exemplify consistent service, impactful contributions, and role model qualities such as empathy, integrity, and perseverance.
While the award is open to all youth, preference is given to individuals whose efforts align with the mission of the Nigerian Canadian Association of Hamilton (NCAH) —such as supporting Nigerian or African communities and promoting cultural heritage.
